Accessibility Statement
NIL Ledger is committed to making our platform accessible to as many people as possible, including users with disabilities. We believe college athletes, their families, agencies, advisors, and the professionals supporting them should be able to use our tools regardless of how they interact with the web.
1. Our Standard
NIL Ledger is actively working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the Level AA standard, published by the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative. WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard most commonly referenced by U.S. accessibility law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as applied to public-facing websites.
NIL Ledger has not yet completed a comprehensive third-party audit of our platform. We are working to address known accessibility issues continuously and expect to commission a formal audit as part of future product milestones.
2. What We've Done
Recent accessibility improvements include:
- Keyboard navigation: all interactive elements (buttons, links, form controls, modals) can be operated with a keyboard. Modal dialogs trap keyboard focus and close on Escape; focus returns to the triggering element when modals close.
- Visible focus indicators: a high-contrast green focus ring appears on every focusable element when navigating by keyboard.
- Skip-to-content links: keyboard users can bypass repeated navigation using a "Skip to main content" link that appears on every page.
- Semantic markup: the site uses appropriate HTML landmarks (<nav>, <main>, <footer>) and a single <h1> per page so assistive technology can present a coherent page structure.
- Accessible forms: form fields are programmatically associated with their labels. Required fields are marked with aria-required and visible asterisks. Errors are announced to screen readers via role="alert" and focus moves to the first invalid field on submit.
- Color contrast: body text and interactive elements have been audited against WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text). Color is not used as the sole means of conveying status — text labels accompany every color-coded indicator.
- Reduced motion: users with the prefers-reduced-motion system preference enabled will see animations and smooth-scroll behavior automatically reduced.
- Screen reader support: decorative icons and visual flourishes are hidden from assistive technology via aria-hidden; meaningful icons have descriptive aria-label attributes.
- Modal dialogs: dialogs use role="dialog" / role="alertdialog" with aria-modal and aria-labelledby so screen readers announce them correctly.
3. Known Limitations
We are aware that certain areas of our platform may not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. These include but are not limited to:
- Third-party integrations (Plaid for bank connections, Stripe for billing, embedded contract previews) are governed by their providers' accessibility implementations.
- Some complex data visualizations (charts, financial breakdowns) may benefit from additional text alternatives, which we are actively improving.
- PDF reports generated by the platform may not yet meet PDF/UA accessibility standards.
- Auto-generated content (such as Deal Analyzer outputs) is structured for clarity but has not been audited line-by-line for accessibility.
4. Report a Barrier
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on NIL Ledger, please tell us. We take every report seriously and work to address issues promptly. Email support@nilledger.com with:
- The page URL where you encountered the problem
- A description of the barrier
- The assistive technology you were using (e.g. NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver), if applicable
- Your browser and operating system
We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within three business days and resolve confirmed issues as quickly as possible. For high-impact barriers that prevent you from using the platform, we will work with you to provide an alternative means of completing the task while a permanent fix is in progress.
5. Our Commitment Going Forward
Accessibility is treated as an ongoing engineering responsibility at NIL Ledger, not a one-time project. New features are reviewed against WCAG 2.1 AA criteria before launch. We plan to:
- Commission a formal third-party accessibility audit as the platform matures
- Continue improving keyboard navigation, screen reader support, and color contrast across the entire product
- Publish updates to this statement as new improvements ship
6. Disclaimer
This statement does not waive any rights you may have under federal, state, or local accessibility laws. Nothing in this statement is intended to constitute a guarantee that the platform is free of accessibility barriers; rather, it reflects our good-faith effort to identify and remove them.
